Olivenhain Municipal Water District's 2025 report lists 200 mg/L of hardness, about 11.7 grains per gallon, for the roughly 78% of its water treated at its own plant. San Dieguito Water District publishes its own report for the homes it serves. The U.S. Geological Survey classes water above 180 mg/L, about 10.5 grains per gallon, as very hard.

Leucadia, Cardiff and the older beach cottages
The older cottages and remodels through Leucadia and Cardiff were built long before softener loops were a convention, and many have tight or awkward utility spaces. That shapes which system physically fits as much as which one you need.
We look at the main line access before promising anything. A main line in an open garage is a fast install. One behind finished wall or in a crawlspace is not.
Olivenhain, Village Park and the inland tracts
The newer inland neighborhoods around Olivenhain and Village Park are more likely to have a pre-plumbed loop, which turns the job into a tie-in at the garage rather than a cut into the main.
If drinking water taste is the real issue and scale is not bothering you, an under-sink reverse osmosis unit at the kitchen tap may be all you need. We will say so rather than selling you a whole-home system you have not asked for.
